The 42nd annual Saginaw Chippewa Powwow started Friday, July 24 at The Hills Campground (7525 E. Tomah Road) in Mount Pleasant and will feature a grand entry today at noon. The free, drug- and alcohol-free event celebrates Native American culture with dancing, drumming, food, and crafts.

Gov. Whitmer signed a new Silver Alert law to help locate missing seniors and vulnerable adults by sending emergency notifications to cell phones — the Michigan State Police will develop and deploy the system to deliver timely alerts.

Governor Whitmer signed Rowan’s Act to update Michigan’s AMBER Alert system by giving state police more discretion to issue alerts when children may be at risk - including cases involving custody disputes and special needs. The law follows recent concerns over alert gaps and is now in effect.
