  • On Dec. 28, firefighters saved a man on Calabria Drive when Assistant Chief Rich Roberts and Firefighter Derron Suchodolski started CPR — after two AED shocks he regained a pulse and is recovering in hospital. The Board honored all four for their quick response.  WNEM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth is celebrating 40 years as a family destination with special events planned throughout the year. Located at 1 Covered Bridge Lane (in Frankenmuth), the resort now features a 170,000 sqft indoor waterpark with 16 waterslides and additional attractions.  MLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new study shows that Michigan public universities generated $45 billion in economic activity and supported 130,000 jobs. Saginaw Valley State University said partnerships with local employers boost growth, and spending in education multiplies into tax revenue — a 28-times return from last year's $1.6 billion budget.  WNEM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Saginaw ISD has named Joshua Miller its new director of career and technical education, and he will lead high school programs and build local industry partnerships (bringing over 20 years of experience).  MLive
  • Arik Smith will step down from Saginaw Township Community Schools' board due to relocation before his term ends in 2028 — the district plans to fill the seat within 30 days.  Mid-Michigan NOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A study shows Michigan public universities boost jobs and investment statewide, while Saginaw City Council has unanimously approved a six-month ban on new data centers (a temporary moratorium).  WNEM
  • City Hall launched a new website page to track key projects including turning the old fairgrounds at Genesee and Webber into a park, a medical diamond expansion near the riverfront, a Hunger Solutions Center upgrade, and City Hall renovations set to finish in Mar. 2026 + future steps.  MLive
  • Flags at the Capitol Complex were lowered to half-staff Tuesday to honor former state senator Joel Gougeon (a retired Air Force pilot) whose long service spanned 1993 to 2002. Flags returned to full staff Wednesday.  WSGW
