- ➤ Saginaw Children's Zoo is hosting the Love Bites fundraiser for Valentine's Day where donors can give $5 by midnight Feb. 14 to name a bug after an ex and support feeding zoo animals (including Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches) ahead of a new Wild in Nature building opening in spring. WNEM

- ➤ Dollar Tree has finished construction on its new 11,000 sqft store (a former Rite Aid building) in Saginaw Township at 3050 Bay Road and is set to open soon. The discount chain is hiring as the township sees growing commercial development with additional retailers coming to the area. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Mott Foundation is launching the Mott Million Dollar Challenge that invites K-12 students to submit a video pitch lasting between 30 and 90 seconds on a business or community idea for a share of $1 million. Submissions run until Feb. 27 and finalists will compete in Flint in June. WNEM
- ➤ Michigan's lottery contributed over $1B to the School Aid Fund for the seventh year — only about 22 cents of each ticket dollar reached K-12 schools, with funds used by local districts for salaries, transportation, and supplies. ABC 12
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The MDARD plans to permit two weevil species — tiny beetles that target spotted knapweed — to control the invasive weed harming native ecosystems, and it is accepting public comment until March 6. WNEM
- ➤ EGLE has awarded $3.87 million from its Renewables Ready Communities Awards to several mid-Michigan towns, including Midland Township's $750K 150 MW battery project, Fairgrove Township's $500K battery project, and Mason Township's $120K solar project pending state board approval. WNEM
