  • Attorney Alan J. Butler, founder of Butler Legal PLLC, died suddenly at his Saginaw Township home on Jan. 29, leaving a void in the local legal community. His funeral is set for 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20 at Paradise Funeral Chapel (3100 S. Washington Ave) with an Omega Service.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • The historic Court Street Theater at 1216 Court St. reopens today with the Saginaw Choral Society’s performance of 'Jukebox One-Hit Wonders: The Musical Misfits' at 7 p.m. today & again at 3 p.m. Saturday, marking its revival after over a year and a half of closure.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jerome Green STEM Preschool in Saginaw is implementing Michigan's first computer science and coding plan for Early Head Start, Head Start, and Great Start Readiness Program students. The hands-on program is part of Saginaw ISD's multi-year CSforALL initiative, teaching skills like robotics, sequencing, and pattern recognition.  WNEM
  • Local high school students were honored at the Anderson Enrichment Center on Thursday, Feb. 12 by the Daughters of the American Revolution for their dependability, service, leadership & patriotism.   • Saginaw County Animal Control director Rachel Horton defended her agency in an email sent Tuesday (Feb. 10), saying a reorganization led former staff to leave voluntarily and an internal review found one controlled substance violation during euthanasia. A federal suit alleging improper procedures is ongoing.  MLive
  • Attorney General Dana Nessel warns online dating users to carefully review privacy policies and terms as Valentine’s Day nears. She advises meeting in public places and alerting a friend before a new date to help prevent scams and protect personal information.  WNEM
  • Michigan is offering $22.6 million in federal funds to help small- and mid-sized auto suppliers retool for hybrid production+ eligible companies must apply electronically through the LEO EGrAMS site by 3 p.m. on April 9.  WSGW
