- ➤ The 29th annual Great Backyard Bird Count runs Feb. 13-16 and invites locals to count birds near feeders, woodlands, or water to aid research for spring migration, sponsored by Cornell Lab + Audubon. Participants around mid-Michigan are encouraged to join the global event. WNEM
- ➤ CAN Council will host its 33rd Annual Mardi Gras Auction on Feb. 26 at Horizons Conference Center on State St. in Saginaw from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., featuring live and silent auctions + southern dining to raise funds for child advocacy programs. MLive
- ➤ Anglers are advised by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office to use caution on the ice as rescue options may take longer since the Coast Guard removed its airboats from service due to catastrophic engine failures — safety crews continue to operate via helicopters and drone tests for flotation drops. - ➤ Saginaw Township Community Schools appointed Sharon Norman to the board on Feb. 5 and she was sworn in on Feb. 9. Norman— a child abuse prevention professional and longtime volunteer— will serve until Dec. 31, strengthening the district's education efforts. MLive
- ➤ Jerome Green STEM Preschool in Saginaw is making state history as it becomes Michigan’s first early childhood program to teach coding to 4- and 5-year-olds. The new curriculum blends daily lessons with age-appropriate computer science activities (focusing on creativity and problem-solving) without increasing screen time. ABC 12
- ➤ A Davison High School student who wants to be a sports journalist was given a $750 broadcasting scholarship Friday by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters — she will continue her studies at Central Michigan University and aims to work for the NFL. WNEM

- ➤ Gov. Gretchen Whitmer began an investment mission in Germany and met with RENK Group's CEO (Dr. Alexander Sagel) to announce a planned expansion with $70 million in capital and $100 million in research that will add 300 Michigan jobs by 2030 and strengthen ties with German investors. WNEM
