COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Positive Results Downtown Saginaw will host a meeting on Thursday, March 12 at 11:30 a.m. at the Dow Event Center’s Jolt Celebration Club to honor community award recipients — induct new board members and feature speakers Cassi Zimmerman and George Bradford.  WNEM

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Saginaw Area Watermedia art exhibition will open Thursday, Mar. 5 at Studio 23 in Bay City — the nonprofit will showcase work by 21 local artists and host an awards ceremony with juror Armin Mersmann from 5 to 7 p.m.  MLive
  • Multiple events are set this weekend in mid-Michigan including a Black History Month celebration at Saginaw Art Museum Saturday at noon, a Rob Little comedy show in Bay City from 8 to 10 p.m., and screenings, concerts and gatherings in Flint, Burton and Saginaw Township.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jerome STEM Preschool in Saginaw uses hands-on activities to teach science, technology, engineering and math to young learners. The state recognized the innovative model for blending play with purposeful instruction to build early confidence and critical thinking skills.  WNEM
  • Former SVSU educator Deborah Huntley will speak on women in science — addressing current challenges and highlighting contributions of women scientists — during a free lecture at Hoyt Library's auditorium on Wednesday, Mar. 4 at 6:30 p.m.; attendees must register online due to limited space.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal funding of $700k will support youth engagement and skills training under Saginaw’s HELP Community Violence Intervention Program — announced on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Thompson Middle School during a roundtable with Congresswoman McDonald Rivet and local leaders.  Mid-Michigan NOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Covenant HealthCare will break ground this March on a $25M orthopedics center at its Mackinaw Road campus in Saginaw Township and plans to finish construction by summer, with the 25,270 sqft facility set to expand patient access in the region. The project is expected to add local jobs and advanced outpatient care.  MLive
  • Covenant HealthCare will break ground on a 25,700 sqft orthopedics facility at its Mackinaw Campus in Saginaw Township this March with a groundbreaking event on April 8 and an expected summer 2027 opening; the center will offer outpatient services like OrthoExpress and house a dedicated team of orthopedic specialists.  WNEM
