COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in Hampton Township held a packed meeting Wednesday night to discuss a proposed solar project (covering over ten acres of farmland) and share concerns about its impact on local agriculture.  WNEM

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Overnight storms flooded roads in Saginaw and Tuscola counties on Wednesday, Mar. 11, closing M-46 (Holland Road) near Taqueria La Michoacana; police and public works cleared water (MDOT reported) while urging drivers to exercise caution.  WNEM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Trevor and Heather Szafranski of R1SE Education and Recreation will appear on Shark Tank this month to pitch plans to expand their before-and-after school program nationally and host a viewing party on March 25 at Horizons Conference Center in Saginaw Township.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over 100 educators from the Great Lakes Bay area (including teachers from Saginaw, Bay City, Midland and Flint) were honored Monday at Horizons Conference Center as they start a free, year-long training program provided by Huntington Bank’s Ignite the Classroom initiative.  MLive
  • The Saginaw Public School District announced Dr. Wilson 'Doc' Smith passed away on March 8; he served as principal at Houghton Elementary & Saginaw High before later guiding Loomis Academy. Funeral arrangements & service details have not been set.  ABC 12
  • Saginaw Township Community Schools will host a Q&A session on its 2026 bond proposal for critical facility upgrades. The event is scheduled for Thursday, March 19 at 6 p.m. at Sherwood Elementary School and, if approved, the bond would cost an owner of a $120,000 home about $5 a month.  WNEM

  • Health Advantage Credit Union received the national MemberXP Best of the Best Award for its online banking experience, ranking in the top 25% nationwide as measured by member feedback — the Saginaw Township-based credit union has served Michigan’s healthcare community since 1970 and operates two branch locations.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local farmers gathered at Ritter Farms Tuesday to celebrate the advancement of a new farm bill that will protect farmland and improve insurance for crops and livestock. Congresswoman Kristen McDonald-Rivet said the legislation will also help head start providers serving rural families.  WNEM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Guided By Grace Adult Day Center opened Monday, March 9 in Bridgeport to offer wellness checks, meals & activities for seniors and adults with disabilities; the center aims to ease caregiver strain and reduce hospital readmissions.  MLive
  • Saginaw patients will soon get advanced neurological care when Henry Ford Health partners with Covenant HealthCare to offer in-person and virtual services at the Mackinaw Road facility, with plans to build an outpatient center in Saginaw Township within five years.  MLive
  • Barb Smith Suicide Resource & Response Network partners with the Saginaw Spirit for a mental health awareness campaign on Saturday, March 14 at the hockey game against Flint Firebirds. TV5 will host a phone bank from 5 to 6:30 p.m. to help those in need.  WNEM
