COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A proposed recovery housing project called Great Lakes Recovery Apartments in Bangor Township will offer 50 units for residents in recovery behind Bay City Mall. The $20 million project, funded with tax credits + settlement funds, will be discussed further at a township meeting on April 14.  MLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On March 13, 400 local business leaders honored 29 projects valued over $970 million at Saginaw Future Inc.'s 34th Annual Awards Luncheon at Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn Lodge—celebrating progress on the 'medical diamond' corridor along South Washington Avenue that boosted jobs and economic growth.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Essexville-Hampton Public Schools is planning a new budget for the 2026-2027 school year and asks parents, students, staff, and community members for input via a brief survey. The survey takes 5 to 7 minutes to complete and will guide resource decisions.  WNEM
  • The Saginaw Art Museum & Gardens is launching Gardens and Galleries, a field trip program that blends art and science learning for students. The program begins April 25 and offers guided tours of the museum’s historic gardens (integrating ecology and horticulture) across the Great Lakes Bay Region.  WSGW
  • On St. Patrick's Day, kindergarten students at Thomas White Elementary School enjoyed a read-aloud of Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss, with local teachers (Ms. Baston, Ms. Elamin, Grandma Sue, Ms. Yesenia Brethauer, Ms. Earline, and Miss Shaniya) guiding the session during National Reading Month.  Mid-Michigan NOW
  • St. Bartholomew Lutheran School in Kawkawlin will unveil its new gymnasium in early July with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, ending over 75 years without a dedicated space for indoor athletics and community events. The facility will be ready for the 2026–2027 school year.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg joined a rally for state Senate candidate Chedrick Greene on Wednesday, March 18 in Midland (including support from majority leader Winnie Brinks) ahead of the May special election for the 35th District covering Bay, Midland and Saginaw counties.  MLive
  • Saginaw County Commissioner Mark Piotrowski is gathering gift card donations at the GOP office on Bay Road to help TSA officers at MBS Airport who have worked unpaid since the shutdown began on Feb. 14. Community partners have already donated sandwiches to support the workers facing delayed paychecks.  Mid-Michigan NOW
