BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Court Street Theater in Saginaw has a new owner as local entrepreneur Jordan Dice purchased the 378-seat historic venue after it went into receivership following Thomas Braley’s death last year—Saginaw County judge approved the sale on Monday. Dice said he will open a Saint Laurent Brothers concession stand inside the theater later this year.  WSGW
  • Jordan Dice, a mid-Michigan entrepreneur, purchased the Court Street Theater after a Saginaw County judge approved the sale following a canceled auction—he plans to add a St. Laurent Brother concession stand like the one at the State Theater—while the theater was listed after owner Thomas Braley passed away last June. This change marks a new chapter for the historic venue that has been on the market for less than a year.  ABC 12
  • Biggby Coffee celebrated its 30th anniversary by dropping off treats to Good Morning Mid-Michigan on March 26th—marking a major milestone for the company.  ABC 12

CRIME NEWS

  • A Bay City woman, Bobbi Jo Shively, had her no contest plea withdrawn by a judge; she pleaded no contest in January for a fatal drunk driving crash on Aug. 10 at the intersection of Tittabawassee and Hospital Roads that killed 37-year-old Melissa Wood and now faces a jury trial.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan's new car seat laws will take effect April 2 and require infants to ride rear-facing until they reach the seat’s weight or height limit—children aged 2 to 5 must use forward-facing seats and those aged 5 to 8 need booster seats until they are 4 feet 9 inches tall; all kids under 13 must sit in the back if a seat is free, state police reminded residents to help lower crash deaths. This rule aims to protect children in vehicle crashes.  WSGW
  • On March 25th, county officials approved a brownfield redevelopment plan for Bay Valley Resort and Conference Center at 2470 Old Bridge Road in Frankenlust Township— the plan lets developers from Storie Co. move forward with a $15 million project to rehabilitate 147 rooms and the on-site golf course after the resort closed in 2022.  MLive
