  • A diaper-wearing spider monkey named Brazil escaped a St. Charles enclosure on March 25 and tried entering a neighbor’s house before Animal Care & Control confirmed she was healthy and advised the owner to secure her enclosure.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mid Michigan College will name its new athletic arena the Isabella Bank Arena — a project boosted by a $500,000 donation from Isabella Bank — that will host Laker Athletics and on-campus graduations when it opens in late 2026.  MLive
  • Frankenmuth Credit Union hosted its Mini Educator Grant reception where 47 educators from 41 schools received over $20,000 for classroom projects including STEM kits and service-learning supplies. The funding supports creative, hands-on education for students in Frankenmuth.  WNEM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials say the new COVID variant (Cicada, BA 3.2) has been detected in Michigan and shows signs of immune escape; however, no increase in illness severity has been observed and risk remains low.  WNEM
  • Health experts warned residents that high-intensity drinking posed risks amid spring break festivities and ongoing March Madness celebrations. They advised caution at local gatherings.  WNEM
