COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Shelters in Saginaw County are preparing for kitten season as warmer weather boosts breeding and they urge residents to adopt these young animals. The adoption push is underway to help manage the surge.  WNEM

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Japanese Cultural Center Tea House (527 Ezra Rust Drive) in Saginaw hosts guided tours and authentic tea ceremonies Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. and plans a small educational building for the Japan Festival on Sept. 13 as the center remains open through Oct. 31.  MLive
  • The Castle Museum of Saginaw County History will launch a new exhibit called Changing Tastes: Saginaw’s Restaurants Through Time on Thursday, Apr. 9. The exhibit will display artifacts and stories from local restaurants (including a curator talk at 5 p.m. and a reception) and is free for Saginaw County residents.  MLive
  • The TempleArts Youth Arts Festival will take place on May 7 at the Temple Theatre and May 9 at the Saginaw Art Museum. The free event will showcase young talent in film, music, theatre and visual arts as part of the museum's Arts for All program.  MLive

  • Heavy rain flooded streets, homes, and waterlogged sewers in Buena Vista Township and Saginaw Township on Monday, Apr. 6 (impacting local neighborhoods).  WNEM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Union leaders and workers joined a roundtable with Senator Slotkin on Monday in Saginaw to discuss manufacturing challenges (rising costs, job security and workforce development). The meeting aimed to bring Michigan workers' voices into policy decisions in Washington.  Mid-Michigan NOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Great Lakes Rheumatology has joined MyMichigan Health, bringing Dr. Albert Manlapit's 30 years of experience to the network, and the practice has been renamed MyMichigan Rheumatology while continuing care at 5453 Hampton Place.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a historic sweep over the Owen Sound Attack, the Flint Firebirds will face the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL Western Conference Semifinals starting Friday at WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario — tickets are available now with games set through April 21.  MLive
  • Saginaw Valley State University is set to form a women’s ice hockey team as part of its athletics program — plans are underway to launch the team this season.  WNEM
