ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 17-year-old died in a crash in Marion Township on April 4 when an ATV collided with a semi (at about 4:45 p.m.) as the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Office investigates the incident.  WNEM

CRIME NEWS

  • On March 21, Brady W. Groom (19) allegedly fought with loss prevention officers at the Saginaw Township Menards (5806 State St.) when he tried to steal security cameras; he fled the scene, was arrested on April 6, and will appear for a preliminary examination on April 21.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • An international student at Saginaw Valley State University had their visa terminated, and the college is contacting the student—while it has asked federal officials for more details—after the change was discovered.  WNEM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bears are expanding their range in Michigan's Lower peninsula with an estimated 2,000 present—homeowners should secure garbage, dirty grills, and bird feed to keep bears away—to prevent dangerous encounters.  Mid-Michigan NOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Intermittent lane closures will occur on I-75 near the northern end of the Zilwaukee Bridge today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again April 10 as crews install utility lines—motorists should expect delays due to temporary full closures and 15-minute slowdowns that are weather-dependent.  WNEM
  • A Saginaw Township doctor filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy for his autopsy services company (Michigan Institute of Forensic Science and Medicine) early this week, delaying a judge’s planned $551,800 defamation judgment ordering him to pay the county’s chief medical examiner after a ruling that he acted with malice. The filing has put the case on hold until courts can review the company’s assets and debts.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Michigan state health officials confirmed 11 mumps infections so far in 2025 and said the cases are sporadic so no extra public notification or control measures will be taken (MDHHS). The virus spreads through saliva and respiratory droplets and can cause painful swelling of the jaw.  MLive
