- ➤ La Unión Cívica Mexicana will host its 46th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 3 in downtown Saginaw with a parade beginning at Hoyt Park at 10:30 a.m. that travels north along Washington Avenue—it will be followed by a festival at the Jolt Credit Union Event Park with live music, food trucks and an after-party featuring a concert and dance at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort. - ➤ Positive Results Downtown Saginaw announced the hiring of Ann Marie Batkoski-Sullivan as the new director to succeed longtime leader Jeanne Conger who will help with the transition. Batkoski-Sullivan, formerly the coordinator of business partnerships at the Saginaw Intermediate School District, will work with local partners as the group continues to organize community events like Friday Night Live. - ➤ Police arrested a suspect on an unrelated probation violation in connection with the murder of 27-year-old Eliza Vega, whose body was found shot to death around 4:15 a.m. on April 5 in a home on Cypress Street while she worked as a traveling nursing assistant. WSGW
- ➤ Guy Lloyd Hubbard, a former Perry Area Fire Rescue chief (60) was charged with two felony embezzlement counts (one for $100,000 or more and one for more than $50) and he entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment. MLive

- ➤ A new five-year agreement between Kettering University and Hemlock Public School District’s Lockwood STEM Center will boost STEM education and career opportunities for students from Hemlock, Merrill, Swan Valley, St. Charles and Freeland school districts; the plan includes a renewable $25,000 annual scholarship and co-hosted STEM outreach activities (a boost for local innovation) and expanded access to Kettering’s pre-college programs (opening doors for future careers). - ➤ The Michigan Supreme Court today revived a lawsuit by former Saginaw County 911 dispatcher Jim Stefanski who said a slow response to a July 2021 shooting led to a young woman's death and his firing. The court ruled in a 6—1 vote that his claim of gross negligence will move forward in court. ABC 12
