COMMUNITY NEWS

  • SVRC discussed plans for the Saginaw Bridal Show with marketplace director Rachel Caudy and IMix Mobile owner Christina Dillard-Jackson. The event is coming soon (exact date and venue pending) for local bridal shoppers to explore new ideas.  WNEM
  • Tuesday's heavy rain filled basements and led to calls for home restoration help while a storm in Albee Twp caused property damage with broken windows, a fallen tree and a missing barn. Water also damaged teaching materials and furniture at Arrowwood Elementary in Saginaw Twp.  WNEM
  • The Saginaw County Animal Care & Control Resource Center updated its hours at 5615 Bay Road as kitten season begins, advising residents to intervene only if feral kittens appear sick or injured. The center stresses waiting to avoid disturbing the mother cat.  WNEM
  • The Saginaw County Community Action Committee will hold its 60th Anniversary Diamond Celebration on May 16 at 6200 State St — the gala will mark decades of breaking barriers and supporting families.  Mid-Michigan NOW

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A brief tornado touched down near East Newburg Road in Shiawassee County on Apr. 15 — damaging trees, homes and barns while wind speeds reached 80 mph and counties remained under flood watches until Thursday.  MLive

  • Skaff Furniture opened its new kitchen and bath store in Mundy Township with a grand opening event plus local community members attended the ribbon cutting. The store expands the company’s services as remodeling projects grow in the area.  ABC 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pinconning Middle/High School removed a potential threat on April 16 with law enforcement assistance (confirming there was no danger to students) as investigators continue reviewing the incident.  WNEM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After the wettest March to April 15 on record, Saginaw County Public Works told residents that standing water from heavy rains is expected to start draining over several days. Commissioner Brian Wendling urged locals to clear catch basin grates and gutters to help the county's 860 drains move water away.  WNEM
  • The City of Essexville reported that over two million gallons of partially treated sewage drained into the Saginaw River on Wednesday – officials have not yet shared further action plans.  WNEM

SPORTS NEWS

  • SVSU reinstated women's basketball coach Jenny Pruett and assistant coach Rob McDonald Wednesday after an investigation into misconduct allegations. The coaches agreed to ongoing professional development (meant to boost student-athlete well-being) as they prepare for next season.  MLive
