- ➤ Saginaw City Hall is hosting the 'Team Up to Clean Up' event on May 10 from 9 a.m. to noon, starting at the Saginaw Public Works building at 1435 S. Washington — volunteers will help clear litter, weed, and edge in various neighborhoods as they sign up online by May 5. MLive
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Fire officials in Birch Run investigated a fire at the Holiday Inn Express on Dixie Highway that led to an evacuation at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, and crews using mutual aid from Bridgeport, Frankenmuth and Taymouth Township contained the fire to a storage room by noon while the hotel remains open. - ➤ On Tuesday around 7:15 p.m., police received a 9-1-1 call about two vehicles exchanging gunfire near the Zilwaukee Bridge and River Road as the chase moved north on M-15 into Bay County; a house in the 200 block of Michigan Street was damaged and one vehicle stopped at a Mobil station near M-15 and Youngs Ditch Road where three men sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds—one remains hospitalized in good condition—while officers continue searching for its occupants. - ➤ The Restore Saginaw Committee supports House Bill 4121 which would remove the cash tax cap voters approved in 1979 — the bill eliminates the annual $3.8 million limit on property tax revenue but keeps the 7.5 mill cap in place for the city. The committee will hold a news conference on April 21 at 10:00 a.m. at the Andersen Enrichment Center to discuss the proposal. WSGW
- ➤ Regulators upheld DTE Energy’s cash-only payment rule for about 27,880 customers with returned payments on April 10 — a decision that critics say forces low-income families to pay in cash and adds extra costs. DTE Energy said the policy helps curb bill accumulation and offers a temporary solution until customers can improve their payment history. MLive

- ➤ Doctors from three major health systems said that whooping cough cases are rising in Michigan as fewer children get the DTaP vaccine & 497 cases have been recorded so far. The infection causes long, severe coughs that put infants at risk & can lead to hospital trips if not treated early. MLive

- ➤ Bob Johnson, feeling sick, tried a bowl of Laotian-style porridge at Pasong’s Cafe in Saginaw and said the warm dish helped him feel better.
