Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 23rd of April.
Good morning, Saginaw.
🚨 Crime
On April 16, the Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team raided a Bridgeport Township home at 3782 Egan Street and arrested 35-year-old Dequavis Smith and 23-year-old Mahogany Lee for operating a drug house—seizing cocaine, methamphetamine, crack cocaine and fentanyl that led to multiple felony charges.
🎭 Culture
Saginaw’s historic Potter Street Station still stands after a massive fire decades ago and once served busy passenger trains before shifting to freight use.
Local preservation groups are now working to restore its legacy—keeping a vital link to the city’s history alive.
📰 Economy
Bay City Bridge Partners reversed its February decision to raise non-resident tolls on the Liberty and Independence bridges amid community pushback—reinstating the $15 monthly subscription for existing enrollees through December.
The revised plan comes after protests, class-action lawsuits, and increased traffic on alternate routes following the initial announcement.
🏥 Health
The non-profit LaVigne Home for Compassionate Care in Burton has provided terminally ill people with free, home-based, end-of-life services since it opened in September 2024 and has helped over 100 families with 24-hour nursing care, meal preparation, cleaning, and support funded by community donations. This facility offers round-the-clock care that eases family stress during difficult times.
