  • A new transportation program will soon offer rides to recovery meetings and treatment services in Huron, Tuscola and Saginaw counties — helping local residents access care in their area.  WNEM
  • The Saginaw Children’s Zoo hatched a new African penguin chick and invites community votes on six name options until April 24 at 11:59 p.m. + Voting concludes on the zoo’s opening day, April 25.  WNEM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Eddie Bauer will close its Birch Run Premium Outlets store by the end of June, making room for a Victoria's Secret (located between Kate Spade and Samsonite) that will open between July and September as part of a chain-wide shutdown.  MLive
  • A family-run pharmacy that served the community for 164 years closed this month while liquor sales fell to about $32 million in 2025. A new dermatology clinic is under construction in Kochville and other business projects continue to reshape the local scene.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Imam Robert Shaheed will lead a discussion on Michigan Islamic history at Hoyt Library at 6:30 p.m. on May 7. The free event is open to adults but space is limited and registration is required.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arrowwood Elementary in Saginaw Township is set to reopen today after a brief closure due to flooding damage, and ServPro crews are working nonstop on deep cleaning and safety checks to ready the building for students and staff.  Mid-Michigan NOW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Freeland rallied in the 7th inning of both games Tuesday to sweep Essexville Garber 7-6 and 7-4 in a Tri-Valley Conference doubleheader and improved to 10-1 overall. The team will face Bullock Creek Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Dow Diamond in Midland.  MLive
  • Former Swan Valley star Mitch Jebb was promoted Tuesday to Triple A by the Pittsburgh Pirates (ahead of an Indianapolis game) after a teammate went on the injured list while Jebb posted solid numbers in Double A Altoona.  MLive
  • MLive is asking local readers to vote for the top high school seniors in spring sports, with local polls open through the weekend. Next week top juniors will be featured and later underclassmen will join the race.  MLive
  • Spencer Torkelson hit his first home run of the season to lift the Tigers to a 5-2 win over the Brewers on Wednesday at Comerica Park — Casey Mize struck out seven over six innings — and the team will face the Brewers again today in a rubber match.  MLive
