- ➤ A 20-year-old man who attended Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy went missing in Cancun after strong waves swept him out to sea at Playa Chac Mool on Sunday evening—police resumed the search on Tuesday—and his 28-year-old swimming partner was found unconscious. WSGW
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Saginaw man named Brandon E. Conley has been charged with third-degree animal torturing or killing and a felony firearm for shooting a stray pit bull on Oct. 9 after he called animal control to report the dog; he was arrested on April 22 and released on bond and must return on May 13—his court review is pending further details—. - ➤ Michigan’s Ticket to Tuition Sweepstakes offers $900,000 in prizes for students filing the FAFSA for the first time for the 2025-2026 school year—ten winners will receive $50,000 and forty winners will get $10,000 deposited to their Education Savings accounts. - ➤ Merrill Community School's First Lego League Challenge Robotics team visited Bay City State Park Tuesday to distribute beach cleaning kits aimed at stopping trash from reaching the Great Lakes (over 40 kits were handed out). They will share more kits at an Invitational event in Florida to boost Earth Day efforts (the kits help protect local waterways and wildlife). ABC 12
- ➤ Fremont Township's Eagle Creek Solar Park received a $600k grant from Renewables Ready Communities Award to continue work on a project that will eventually power the equivalent of 33,500 homes — it is also expected to create about 250 construction jobs. Mid-Michigan NOW

- ➤ Gov. Whitmer announced a statewide program to help up to 15,000 households lower their home energy bills through rebates of up to $34,000 for energy upgrades and efficient appliances—administered by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy and prioritizing households at or below 80% of the area median income. - ➤ Mid-Michigan residents protested outside the Saginaw Social Security Office to ask if the office will stay open after it was removed from a federal disposal list. Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet sent a second letter to the General Services Administration to demand clear answers—local protestors worry that closing the office will remove vital in-person support for seniors and people with disabilities.
