ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A train hauling corn from Breckenridge derailed near the intersection of Michigan and River Forest drives in Saginaw Township on Thursday at 4 p.m.—eight cars came off the tracks with six overturning and spilling tons of corn while authorities urged the public to steer clear as cleanup began. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A substitute teacher accused of killing a Millington woman in a November 16 crash on Birch Run Road while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine appeared in court on April 25 and had her case bound over to Circuit Court for trial—her attorney said plea negotiations continue as investigators await further evidence. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Work on four mid-Michigan dams damaged in the May 2020 flood will be completed over the next two years – repairs on the Secord, Smallwood and Sanford dams are set to finish by summer and spring while the Edenville dam work will end in fall. Construction resumed this year after legal delays halted progress in 2024 following the flood that caused major property damage and forced evacuations. MLive
- ➤ Starting Monday, April 28, MDOT will begin a $13M project to rebuild 1.1 miles of eastbound State Street from Avalon Avenue to Bay Street in Saginaw by installing hot-mix asphalt, new concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks, signal upgrades and fresh pavement markings. The work will include tree clearing through May 2 and detouring traffic onto westbound Davenport Avenue from May 5—supporting 124 jobs and expected to finish in December. MLive
