ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Bridgeport Fire Department responded to the former Candlelite Bowling Alley on Dixie Highway at about 3 a.m. Saturday—when a fire alarm and confirmed flames triggered a multi-alarm response from several units—and no injuries were reported as investigators search for the cause.  ABC 12
  • Saginaw police said a driver lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a house near North Oakley and State streets around noon Sunday—no serious injuries were reported and the road was closed at State and Durand streets for Consumers Energy to repair a broken utility pole.  WNEM

CRIME NEWS

  • A 31-year-old man died after being fatally shot early Saturday at 4:14 a.m. on the 2900 block of Arlington Drive in Buena Vista Township — police say he was the intended target and no suspect has been identified.  ABC 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jack and Meg White were announced as inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 27 — joining the 2025 class with other well-known artists. The White Stripes, formed in Detroit in 1997, will have their induction ceremony this fall — a recognition of their long-lasting influence on rock music.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan crews will work on over 55 road projects this week — including lane closures on M-58 in Saginaw County where one lane is closed from 7 a.m. to noon through Friday. State officials urge drivers to slow down in work zones and obey posted signs to stay safe during repairs — as closures continue on major roads statewide.  MLive
  • Bay County sheriffs said they will not join ICE enforcement after receiving federal inquiries on April 17—citing that their offices already handle immigration needs—and Bay City officials dropped a toll discount proposal when the bridge company asked for secrecy. Fat Matt’s BBQ food truck opened after family encouragement, City Commissioners appointed new leadership on April 21, and Bay City Bridge Partners extended $15 non-resident monthly passes through December while accepting applications to fill a commissioner vacancy.  MLive

  • Saginaw’s Jimmy Bell Jr. played basketball and football at Arthur Hill High School and signed as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Chargers—he will attend rookie mini-camp from May 8 to 11—and he hopes to follow the path of Antonio Gates.  MLive
  • Former Saginaw Heritage star Spencer Schwellenbach made another quality start for the Braves on April 27 by allowing seven hits, three earned runs and one walk in six innings as the team lost 6-4 to the Diamondbacks. He now has five quality starts in six outings + his season totals include 37 2/3 innings pitched with 33 strikeouts and six walks.  MLive
