- ➤ La Unión Cívica Mexicana of Saginaw will host the 47th annual Cinco de Mayo Parade and Festival on Saturday, May 2. The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. in downtown, followed by a festival at Jolt Credit Union Event Park offering food trucks + music and folkloric dancers. MLive
- ➤ The Saginaw Children's Zoo reopened today with new attractions and events through October; a new nature building (featuring reptiles, amphibians, and birds) will debut next week. ABC 12
- ➤ The Wild Pumpkin opened its spring season — offering families wagon rides, open fields and hands-on activities to enjoy outdoor fun. Visitors can take advantage of the new offerings starting today. WNEM

- ➤ Panera Bread will open its second bakery at 4738 State St on Thursday, April 30. The bakery will host a baguette-breaking ceremony awarding free meals to the first 100 guests & invite nonprofits to hold fundraisers while creating 25 to 30 jobs. WNEM

- ➤ On Sunday, April 26, the This Is Me Saginaw fashion show was held at Golden Glow Ballroom, where 23 differently abled children modeled outfits and received supportive gestures from the audience. The event will move to Saginaw Valley State University next year, continuing its mission to empower participants. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Three high school teams from Midland and Saginaw won a combined $53K in scholarships and STEM grants at SVSU on April 25. The competition challenged 20 teams from five schools to develop solutions for real-world problems. MLive
- ➤ Saginaw Township voters will decide on a school bond proposal on May 5 to upgrade aging facilities, with early in-person voting starting April 25 for county residents.
