  • On April 27, 2025, the Buena Vista Community Center hosted the second annual 'This Is Me Takes Saginaw' fashion show featuring 18 models with intellectual and developmental disabilities who walked the runway amid applause — organizers said the event builds confidence and celebrates inclusion in Saginaw.  MLive

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire crews responded to a blaze at the former Candelite Bowling and Banquet Center at 6817 Dixie Highway this past Saturday morning — closing the road between S. Portsmouth and Herzog Roads while mutual aid from nearby departments worked to control the fire, which destroyed the building without causing injuries.  WSGW

CRIME NEWS

  • Police in Buena Vista Township responded to a shots fired call around 4:15 a.m. on Saturday on the 2900 block of Arlington Drive—finding 31-year-old Deon Haynes suffering multiple gunshot wounds who later died while the investigation remains open with no suspects in custody.  WSGW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan lawmakers have presented two different bills to limit smartphone use in K-12 classrooms—Rep. Tisdel’s bill bans phones for younger students and sets tiered rules, while Sen. Polehanki’s plan lets school boards set policies with needed exceptions. Both proposals follow Governor Whitmer’s call to reduce distractions in the classroom.  MLive

  • Matthew Jolly (37) lost his leg four years ago but has returned to running after receiving a prosthetic from Mary Free Bed, and he ran his first race in four years at the St. Patrick's Day 5K in Bay City.
