  • Michigan Kroger stores will offer a special 5% discount for seniors on Wednesday, May 6 at all 120 locations. Shoppers 55 and older must scan their loyalty card + ask the cashier to apply the discount.  Mid-Michigan NOW

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A global helium shortage is pushing up prices and may soon impact local party supply businesses and tech companies as increased costs for balloons and critical equipment are reported — experts warn that wait times and expenses could rise in the coming months.  WNEM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central Michigan University partnered with local high schools to offer virtual reality lessons in anatomy and physiology; students from Bullock Creek High School and schools in Beal City, Essexville, and Freeland have used immersive tools over the last school year—an innovative teaching method that brings science to life.  Mid-Michigan NOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials plan a ribbon cutting in June for Saginaw’s new 163-foot water tower as it nears the end of its startup process; the tower will extend outage response times at the water treatment plant — residents should notice more stable water pressure.  WSGW
  • Congress passed a Farm Bill that now lets families use SNAP benefits to buy hot rotisserie chicken at local grocery stores. The law ends the rule — which required the chicken to cool before purchase — so recipients can get a hot meal immediately.  ABC 12

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Ten manufactured homes will be offered in Buena Vista Township as part of housing initiatives supported by $1.4M — with $943K for the project and $472K for rehabilitation grants. An event is set for May 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Township Hall on East Holland.  WSGW
