COMMUNITY NEWS

  • PFLAG Great Lakes Bay Region will host its annual Chocolate Party fundraiser on June 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rose Garden at Saginaw’s Andersen Enrichment Center (Delta College is the first event sponsor) where tickets cost $25 and are limited.  MLive
  • The Saginaw Rotary Club announced plans to restore Crayola Park using a $675,000 budget and accessible playground equipment, including a big bay of swings to encourage shared play. Construction will start in spring 2027—funds are being raised through the Saginaw Community Foundation.  WNEM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Acra Cast Inc. in Bay City is expanding its operations with a $2.2 million upgrade that will create 25 new jobs and boost in-house capabilities. The expansion is backed by state funding for road improvements and a workforce proposal from Delta College to meet job creation goals.  ABC 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Saginaw Children’s Zoo opened a new building this season to help visitors connect with animals that are less commonly seen than the usual favorites. The space offers a fresh way to view and learn about these animals (details are posted at the entrance).  WNEM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A 27-year-old Saginaw County man won $1 million playing Epic Wild Time at a local gas station on Gratiot Road and later claimed a $693,000 payout at Lottery headquarters; he said he planned to buy a new car and share it with his family.  WNEM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Saginaw ISD honored four educators as the 2026 Teachers of the Year during teacher appreciation month - one teacher will receive a $1,000 check as the overall winner after nominations grew from 12 to 50, and the district plans to expand award celebrations to honor more educational leaders.  ABC 12
  • Voters in Saginaw Township Community Schools rejected a $94.2 million bond request for improvements on May 5—58% voted against it, marking the district’s third bond failure in three years. The district will review future plans based on community feedback.  Mid-Michigan NOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan and 53 other states gave final approval to a $700 million settlement with Google over in-app payment practices — the deal will deliver funds to consumers from Aug. 2016 to Sept. 2023 and require changes so app makers can use alternative payment systems.  WNEM

  • Swan Valley earned a sweep in the Tri-Valley Conference Red series on Tuesday against Bay City John Glenn — ace Jaxon Hartley struck out 13 in seven innings and pushed the Vikings’ record to 7 to 1 tied for first place.  MLive
