- ➤ Fischer Platz Biergarten (at the Bavarian Inn Restaurant) in Frankenmuth will reopen on May 14 for the summer season. It will debut a new menu and host live entertainment during the opening weekend with varying hours until May 17. MLive

- ➤ Dozens of artworks by Saginaw students are on display at the Cultural Art Exhibition held in SVRC Marketplace (203 S. Washington) until Thursday, May 14, with free entry and an awards ceremony scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 14. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Three Bay-Arenac Career Center students earned first-of-its-kind apprenticeship certificates on May 5 after receiving hands-on lab training at Hemlock Semiconductor through a partnership among BAISD, Hemlock Semiconductor and the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (MARC Level 1 and Level 2). The certificates recognize technical skill development in high-demand fields. MLive

- ➤ On May 7, Covenant HealthCare surprised six nurses with Nursing Excellence Awards during National Nurses Week at its Saginaw facility, honoring five for Leadership and Mentoring and one for Caring Practice (nominated by peers) for exceptional care. MLive
- ➤ The Saginaw County Health Department honored employees & community leaders during National Public Health Week by naming Leslie Davenport as Employee of the Year and awarding Hurley J. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ High school baseball district tournaments begin Tuesday, May 26 for Saginaw-area teams in several divisions at venues including Mount Pleasant + North Branch; winners will advance to regional semifinals on June 3 at designated sites. MLive
- ➤ Birch Run senior Sydney Fox earned the MLive Saginaw Athlete of the Week honor after scoring key goals in wins that improved her team's 11-2-1 record as they prepared for the Alma Invitational today. MLive
- ➤ Saginaw-area high school softball teams begin pre-district play Tuesday, May 26, with district tournaments (May 29-30) set across divisions. Winning teams will advance to regionals starting June 6 and eventually compete in state championships on June 13 at Michigan State University. MLive
