BUSINESS NEWS

  • Three Wendy's restaurants in Saginaw County closed permanently this week after notices were posted at locations in Thomas Township, Birch Run & Bridgeport Township, cutting the state's total by 15 since March. The closures come as the fast food chain plans to shutter additional sites amid declining sales.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • A life-size Weird Al cutout is hidden in Saginaw as part of a weekly scavenger hunt ahead of his performance. Fans who scan a QR code and post on social media can win concert tickets + a one-night hotel stay before his Tuesday, July 7 show at The Dow Event Center.  MLive
  • The Saginaw Art Museum & Gardens will host a free summer concert series in its gardens, featuring the Midland Community Jazz Band on June 2, Charles Allen and the Vibe on July 7 and the Shakedown Band on Aug. 4 — doors open at 6 p.m.  MLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA cautioned drivers as high gas prices led nearly half of Michigan drivers to let their tanks run near empty. The agency warned that skipping routine maintenance could damage fuel pumps + lead to costly repairs.  WNEM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet honored the late Senator Don Riegle with a speech and moment of silence — a tribute to his public service legacy.  WNEM
  • With a full tank costing about $71, Michigan has provided hotlines and online forms for reporting fuel quality issues and potential price gouging — including options to contact MDARD and the Attorney General’s Office. Drivers can also use AAA and GasBuddy to search for lower gas prices nearby.  WNEM

HEALTH NEWS

  • An open house was held on May 14 at Jerome Green STEM Preschool for the new community clinic that now offers nutrition education, breastfeeding support and referral services. The clinic – part of Saginaw ISD renovations and in partnership with the county health department – expands local health access.  WNEM

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • AAA advises local drivers to avoid running on empty gas tanks (experts say low fuel can harm engine performance) and to keep up with regular car maintenance.  WNEM

  • Great Lakes Sports and Entertainment Network will air the final three Loons games today + Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17 so fans can watch the series on TV.  WNEM
