- ➤ A man and his horse were seriously injured in a hit-and-run on May 30 at 6:20 p.m. when a white or light-colored 2010 to 2014 Ford Fusion rear-ended a buggy on Peck Road 55 miles east of Saginaw—state police reported the driver did not stop and are asking anyone with information to come forward. - ➤ Friday saw local high school sports action as Nouvel edged Valley Lutheran 3 to 2 to win its third straight Division 4 girls soccer district title and secure a regional spot in Clare—St. Louis captured its second softball district title while Coleman ended its season with an 11 to 1 baseball semifinal loss. - ➤ Seven Saginaw-area softball teams won district championships and will move on to regionals—Midland High and Heritage in Division 1, Frankenmuth in Division 2, Bullock Creek, St. Louis, and Millington in Division 3, with Michigan Lutheran Seminary winning in Division 4. MLive
- ➤ Midland High beat Midland Dow 1-0 while Freeland won 3-2 over Standish-Sterling on Saturday to claim girls soccer district titles; Midland High will advance to the Grand Haven regional at 5 p.m. and Freeland will face Frankenmuth in the Lansing Catholic regional at 7 p.m.—local teams now prepare for their next rounds. - ➤ Chesaning won its second Division 3 boys track state title Saturday at Kent City—scoring 57 points and beating Pewamo-Westphalia, Reed City and Lawton after finishing 24th with nine points last year. Coach Dylan Harrington said the team improved in relays and hurdles and showed strong progress from last season. MLive
- ➤ Spencer Schwellenbach, a Saginaw Heritage graduate, celebrated his 25th birthday Saturday by pitching a shutout win of 5-0 against Boston for the Atlanta Braves while throwing two pitches at 100 mph. He pitched 6⅓ innings with 11 strikeouts and no walks, lowering his ERA to 3.13. MLive
