COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Castle Museum will host Jazz on Jefferson on June 4 from 4:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. on South Jefferson Avenue, featuring live music and a tribute to one of its founders. The museum will also host its Summer FUN Kickoff on June 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—an event with kids activities, giveaways and a Touch-A-Truck event.  WNEM
  • Saginaw County Parks and Recreation will host the 35th Annual Catch Me If You Can fishing festival on Saturday, June 7 at William H. Haithco Recreation Area on Haitcho Lake—the first 150 youths to register will receive a free fishing pole and light tackle and free ice cream sundaes will be served from 10:30 a.m. to noon.  MLive

CRIME NEWS

  • Buena Vista Township police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 41-year-old man outside the Pole Barn club early Sunday just before 4 a.m. after surveillance footage showed the victim leaving with a woman before a hooded suspect shot him 12 times and fled the scene.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews started a $1.3M road resurfacing project on M-52 to M-57 North that began Monday, June 2 and will finish June 27—drivers face single-lane closures under flag control while the work supports 12 local jobs.  WNEM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Eight Saginaw-area athletes and one team won state titles at Saturday’s Michigan high school track meets, logging 68 all-state performances across four divisions. Sydney Kuhn led with three first-place finishes and a near-record 400-meter run while athletes from Midland Dow, Chesaning and Hudsonville also secured titles—marking a strong show for local track competitors.  MLive
  • Saginaw-area high school athletes earned top honors during May 25-31 and fans can vote until 11 p.m. Thursday for Athlete of the Week (recognizing strong performances in track, baseball, and softball). The poll follows a week of standout achievements and lets locals choose their top athlete.  MLive
