- ➤ Derf’s Deli opened on April 2 at the SVRC Marketplace on 203 S. Washington Ave in Saginaw, serving chef-crafted sandwiches, soups and salads with a twist. The veteran co-founders run a Hang a Meal program that donates meals to East Side Soup Kitchen when customers round up their bills and gives free meals to veterans and uniformed first responders on select holidays — they also offer catering. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Dustin Robert Haske, 34, was arrested on a freighter in Soo Locks on June 4 and arraigned on June 5 on six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct stemming from a March 2019 incident—he is held on a $150,000 bond in Alpena County Jail and faces up to life in prison if convicted. - ➤ Drew Tolfree, grandson of local softball legend Art Tolfree, pitched a no-hitter in the Division 3 baseball regional final on Saturday at Millington—his performance broke Valley Lutheran's season with a 2-0 win for Lansing Catholic. MLive

- ➤ Michigan Lutheran Seminary won its first softball regional title on Saturday at Vestaburg by beating Fowler 8 to 7 after a 7 to 3 win over Mio in the semifinal. The Cardinals posted a 31 win and 10 loss record—despite finishing school two weeks ago—and will play a quarterfinal game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Ferris State. MLive
