- ➤ Today the inaugural Boat & Food Truck Festival launches along the Saginaw riverfront near Old Town from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. to support the Mustard Seed Shelter—a local nonprofit for women and children in crisis—and features food trucks, live music, craft vendors and children’s activities—organizers advise residents to bring lawn chairs because seating near the stage is limited. - ➤ The Great Lakes Bay Pride Festival will bring a free, family-friendly celebration to downtown Saginaw on June 28 with vendors, live entertainment and a children’s activity area at Jolt Credit Union Event Park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.—an after party drag show billed as the largest in the region will be held at the Dow Event Center where tickets can be bought online for $15 until doors open at 7 p.m. MLive
- ➤ Electric Forest kicked off Thursday, June 19 at Double JJ Resort when headlining acts Justice, Liquid Stranger, Sara Landry and Vintage Culture performed during a brief rain storm that cooled the crowd. The 13th annual festival will run through Sunday, June 22 & feature more performances as the schedule unfolds. MLive

- ➤ Bob Johnson, a former MLive journalist who worked for 15 years covering Saginaw, was hired as the director of marketing, public relations + communications for Saginaw Public Schools and will begin in July. Board members welcomed him at a June 18 meeting and praised his deep ties to the community. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ An Extreme Heat Watch is in effect today in Michigan — including Saginaw — as forecasts predict daytime temperatures in the 90s will feel like over 104 degrees later this weekend. The National Weather Service cautions residents to stay hydrated and seek air-conditioned shelter as the heat continues until Tuesday evening. MLive

- ➤ Meijer recalled packages of Frederik's Dark Chocolate Almonds sold in black stand-up pouches from stores in Michigan and nearby states — the recall came after a customer reported that the products may contain cashews, which could cause allergic reactions — and the items carry sell-by dates of May 7 and May 28 in 2026.
