President Thomas Roy of Saginaw Area Fireworks responded to local criticism over this year’s continuous Fourth of July show by stating that the $150,000 raised fully funded the event — with no budget cuts — and that the change allowed longer firework time.

He said the board will bring back a bigger finale — a move planned for 2026 — in response to the feedback.

The family of fallen trooper Joel Popp had their mortgage paid off by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation after he died on January 25 while investigating an impaired driver near Birch Run.

Governor Whitmer granted clemency to seven individuals by pardoning three and commuting the life sentences of four who were convicted of murder after a recommendation from the Michigan Parole Board—each had shown strong rehabilitation during their time in prison.
