  • Chipotle Mexican Grill will open a new restaurant at 5709 State St. in Saginaw Township this fall — the site next to Tommy’s Express Car Wash will include a drive-through lane and is part of the township’s ongoing redevelopment efforts, making it the second Chipotle in the area.  MLive

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 7, a Saginaw woman testified that her ex-boyfriend, Deran F. Henton, tortured her for hours during a May 16 assault at her South 10th Street apartment by breaking her bones and stabbing her with kitchen utensils — she escaped when he passed out — and he now faces multiple felony charges.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Saginaw Public Schools mourn the loss of 15 year old athlete Timmie Favorite Jr. who died at a large party in Carrollton Township on July 5. He finished eighth grade at Thompson Middle School and was set to begin high school later this summer — officials said the cause of his death may remain unknown.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Starting next week, Saginaw will host the state tournament for players aged 10, 11 and 12 on local ballfields as hundreds of teams and their families are expected to arrive. Organizers say volunteers are urgently needed to help with field setup — including staffing scoreboards, managing parking and assisting with game tasks.  WNEM
