  • Kennicott Brothers Wholesale Floral on Tittabawassee Road in Saginaw County is set to close on July 18, leaving local florists without a key supplier during wedding season. Florists must change suppliers and plan orders earlier—resulting in longer wait times and possibly higher prices for their customers.  WNEM
  • Kennicott Brothers, a major Mid-Michigan floral supplier, will close on July 18—leaving florists from Flint to Midland scrambling to secure new suppliers. Local businesses are planning to adjust their orders—preparing to meet customer demand as they search for replacements.  WNEM

CRIME NEWS

  • Saginaw police charged 25-year-old Darius D. Williams with open murder on July 9 for killing Terence L. Johnson, a lifelong resident found with a knife in his eye near the Stop N Shop on the East Side after DNA linked him to the weapon; his court hearing is set for July 31.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Saginaw is hosting the Sun and Sand Sculpting Competition for its fifth year this weekend—over 50 artists are creating 25 sand sculptures while locals enjoy live music and family activities at The Point. The public will vote once the sculptures are finished to choose the winner.  Mid-Michigan NOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jennifer Laux, a dedicated Saginaw County 4-H volunteer leading local livestock and seed library programs, was awarded the Michigan Farm Bureau 4-H Excellence in Agriculture Award by Michigan State University. She received a $1,000 grant to support her efforts in teaching youth showmanship and agricultural skills, which recognizes her commitment to 4-H education.  WNEM
  • Saginaw ISD began demolishing Brunkow Preschool after a December fire (the building was a total loss) and will finish demolition by late summer. The district has moved significant items to other sites and relocated students to nearby early childhood centers (the site will then be restored as green space).  ABC 12
