- ➤ The Bay County Fair will run from July 29 to Aug. 2 at the fairgrounds on Livingston St in Bay City—free admission and parking will continue as new LED Agri Golf courses, exotic animal exhibits, and nightly grandstand events debut with Micro Wrestling on Tuesday, a demolition derby on Wednesday, and USA Bump ’n Run races on Friday. Additional family rides and games will also be available throughout the five-day event. MLive
- ➤ Local community leaders and volunteers participated in a poverty simulation at the East Side Soup Kitchen to show the challenges of living on limited means — the four-week exercise had participants role-play real-life struggles and saw 956 meals served as a reminder of local needs. WNEM

- ➤ Abbott’s Meat, a 118-year-old family business known for its signature ground beef blend for Flint coney sauce, is closing after owner Ed Abbott II retired—it will process orders through the end of summer before shutting down completely later this year. MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials raised the new 3-million-gallon water tank to its final position on July 14 near Webber and South Washington Avenue to keep water flowing during outages for 170,000 customers. City crews will add roof structures, paint, and pipes before the project completes in December (the project costs $18.1 million) (most of which comes from a $15 million state grant with local funds covering the rest).
