  • Curveball Collectibles in Saginaw Township is giving free packs of baseball cards to Little League players at the State Tournament today. The store is open until 9 p.m.—players can pick up their free cards during this time.  WNEM

CRIME NEWS

  • Amazing Grace Animal Rescue said someone stole donated pop cans from its property six times in the past two months—staff rely on the deposits to cover high bills while camera footage captured a suspect on two nights.  WNEM
  • Testimony in Saginaw County trial linked former city employee Jason Cabello to the February 2003 murder of 57-year-old Jeanette Wilton near her Flint River home+ DNA evidence tied him to the case, he was arrested in December and he denies the charges as court decisions continue.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MBS International Airport in Saginaw County has received a $4.6 million federal grant—provided through the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program—to fund the rebuilding of Taxiway A, which will include rehabilitating 6,400 feet of runway and upgrading its lighting and signage.  WNEM
  • Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services will resume its free Frankenmuth Express shuttle on Aug. 1 for Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. with departures from Downtown Plaza + stops near shops, attractions, and restaurants. The shuttle loops every 20 minutes but will not run during Auto Festival from Sept. 5 to Sept. 7 + the schedule is confirmed on the agency’s Facebook post.  WNEM
  • Seven canine teams graduated from MSP Basic Canine School on July 18—adding four new teams and three replacement teams to a total of 42. The 14‑week training gave handlers over 500 hours of instruction and prepared 61 canines that handled more than 6,100 service calls annually.  WNEM
  • The Michigan State Senate’s 35th District seat has been vacant for almost 200 days after Kristen McDonald Rivet left her post when she became a congresswoman—residents in Saginaw are calling for a special election to restore representation. Dr. Pamela Pugh announced her candidacy and warned that local communities may face policy shifts, while Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist has not set a timeline for the election.  Mid-Michigan NOW
