On July 23, 2025, a smoke detector in a West Side home warned a family of a fire in a child's bedroom—allowing them to escape safely before firefighters put out the blaze that caused $15,000 in property damage and $1,000 in damage to belongings while also showing that free detector installations were available since April 26.

Tokyo Grill Sushi and Hibachi Buffet is set to open soon at 3210 Bay Road in Saginaw Township on the site that once housed Cajun Krab, Teppanyaki Grill and Supreme Buffet, and Fire Mountain.

Brandon Hillaker, who survived a suicide attempt and years of mental health struggles, began a 355-mile triathlon on July 24 from Hell to Paradise to raise funds for suicide prevention programs from the Barb Smith Suicide Resource and Response Network—he will bike 285 miles, swim 5 miles across the Straits of Mackinac and run 65 miles over three days.
