- ➤ On July 23, 2025, a smoke detector in a West Side home warned a family of a fire in a child's bedroom—allowing them to escape safely before firefighters put out the blaze that caused $15,000 in property damage and $1,000 in damage to belongings while also showing that free detector installations were available since April 26. - ➤ Saginaw police are investigating a shooting on the southside when a man leaving his home at 1:30 p.m. on the 2600 block of Hampshire Street near Livingston Drive was hit by bullets and drove himself to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries — police continue to search for suspects. - ➤ Brandon Hillaker, who survived a suicide attempt and years of mental health struggles, began a 355-mile triathlon on July 24 from Hell to Paradise to raise funds for suicide prevention programs from the Barb Smith Suicide Resource and Response Network—he will bike 285 miles, swim 5 miles across the Straits of Mackinac and run 65 miles over three days.
