- ➤ The Forgotten Eagles, Chapter 3, celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Thumb Extra-Mile Ride this weekend — raising thousand dollars for local veterans in mid-Michigan. WNEM
- ➤ The Michigan Department of Transportation invested about $1 million to improve 9.6 miles of the Hager Line Rail-Trail from Towerline Road to M-15 in Saginaw and Tuscola counties. The trail closed on July 28 for milling, resurfacing, bridge deck repairs and pavement markings — work is scheduled to finish on November 14. Mid-Michigan NOW
- ➤ The Catholic Diocese of Saginaw announced that St. Hyacinth Church in Bay City closed on Monday, July 28—after a review of community concerns, parishioners were urged to attend other local Catholic churches. Those who feel aggrieved may submit a hierarchical recourse within 15 days as Bishop Gruss explained the decision was made after prayerful discernment to support community spiritual well-being. WNEM
- ➤ STARS buses will begin taking Saginaw residents from the STARS Plaza at 615 Johnson Street to the Saginaw County Fair in Chesaning today and will run through Aug 2; the fare is $5 per adult each way plus youth ride for free with a valid Youth Pass that must be obtained with a birth certificate beforehand. - ➤ Bay County law enforcement is asking for help to find 14-year-old Chloe Ann Ringler, who was last seen at 11:30 p.m. Saturday in Bangor Township wearing a white tank top and shorts+ described as having long dark hair, brown eyes, and a nose ring, and authorities believe she may be in Bay City or Saginaw. - ➤ The Michigan Supreme Court ruled that Saginaw County may be held liable under the Whistleblowers’ Protection Act — a decision stemming from former assistant prosecutor Jennifer Janetsky’s 2015 lawsuit that protects public employees who report misconduct — and the ruling sets a new legal standard for public policy-based termination claims.
