CRIME NEWS

  • Three Michigan businessmen from Surveying Solutions Inc. pleaded guilty in federal court on July 28 to fraudulently claiming minority-owned status to secure MDOT contracts and overbilling through shell companies—a crime carrying up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel joined a coalition of 20 state attorneys general in filing a lawsuit against the USDA — the suit challenges a recent demand for sensitive SNAP data that could force states to choose between funding and residents' privacy.  WNEM
  • The Saginaw City Council voted Monday night to sell a one-acre lot for $1 to Shaheen Development near MyMichigan Medical Center Saginaw as part of the city’s long-term plan to reshape its healthcare and business corridor, and the project will cost $35 million. Shaheen Development must complete the mixed-use project—including a $15 million behavioral health clinic plus residential, commercial and retail space—within four years or the land will revert to the city.  WNEM
