- ➤ Jason Cabello, a 47-year-old man from Saginaw, is set to face trial for his alleged role in the 2003 murder and sexual assault of Jeanette Wilton near the Flint River — he faces charges of first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder and first-degree criminal sexual conduct that carry potential life sentences. - ➤ Saginaw Public Schools is requiring all middle school students to use clear backpacks for the 2025–2026 school year to improve safety at Saginaw and Thompson middle schools. Every student will get their first clear backpack for free at August orientation and extra bags can be purchased for $10 each — officials said. WNEM

- ➤ ELGA Credit Union and COPOCO Community Credit Union merged after COPOCO members approved the deal on July 21. The merger became official Friday — it combined resources to serve 108,000 members over 16 branches as COPOCO began converting to ELGA’s systems this summer through next spring. ABC 12
