- ➤ Frankenmuth Dog Bowl in May raised a record $55,706.25 for police K9 units, dog rescues and local community groups using its Olympic-style events. Organizers said they will plan even bigger fundraising efforts for next year. MLive

- ➤ A Bay County judge said ex-Auburn DPW director Ashlie K. House violated the public trust by embezzling thousands—she pled no contest on Aug. 4 and must complete probation while repaying all stolen money to avoid a felony. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Midland native and CMU master's student Aaron Vlasek found that mussel species in parts of the Tittabawassee River watershed have changed compared with a 40-year-old inventory he updated this summer — some areas now show more species while others have lost some. He plans to publish his findings so that researchers can build on his work to better understand Michigan’s freshwater ecosystem. ABC 12
