- ➤ Michigan State Police troopers answered a call on July 31 in Otisville when 54-year-old James Jennings barricaded himself in a home on Main Street and fired his gun, but an Armored Rescue Vehicle—funded by the state budget—kept them safe from three direct bullet hits even though one bullet struck a nearby house. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ After 50 artists sold their work on Friday, the Saginaw Art Fair continues today on Ojibway Island. Visitors can join a free dance class at 10 a.m. and try a pour paint class along with drop-in activities until the event ends at 5 p.m. WNEM
- ➤ PBS’s Under the Radar Michigan recently uploaded a 27-minute episode that featured four local businesses — including Kakes the Great Popcorn Co. in downtown Saginaw, Chef Sergey’s Bakery in Midland, The Antique Toy and Firehouse Museum, and Michigan Cream & Sugar Ice Cream Co. in Bay City. - ➤ Gov. Whitmer appointed Shaun Johnson and Dr. Debasish Mridha to the SVSU Board of Control on August 7; Johnson, a Consumers Energy executive from DeWitt, and Mridha, a neurologist from Saginaw, will serve eight-year terms until July 21, 2033—replacing outgoing board members. MLive
