  • The Fulgencio family expanded Wonder Burger by landing a permanent spot at Old Town Distillery by Wonder in Saginaw — they now serve specialty cocktails made with spirits from previous owners and plan to host community events like celebrity bartender nights to support local charities. They kept many features of the historic venue and expressed deep pride in serving their home community.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 57th Saginaw African Cultural Festival began on August 8 on the former Morley School grounds and brought vendors and locals together with African clothing, art, and food—festival president Alexis Thomas said it feels like a big family reunion. The event continues through the weekend as the community celebrates its heritage.  MLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Michigan Community and Worker Economic Transition Office has opened applications for an 18‐month Community Growth Academy that helps groups affected by shifts in the auto and utility fields. The academy uses a new Community Transition Playbook (funded by a $1.5M Ballmer Group grant) to offer planning tools, grant funds, and technical help to eligible groups (including municipal governments, nonprofits, tribal entities, and economic development organizations).  WSGW
