- ➤ The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy is awarding a $1 million Brownfield Redevelopment Grant to clean soil and remove hazardous materials at the former truck stop on 1223 W. Saginaw Road so Cook Chevrolet can develop a used car lot, service center, and sales building—steps that will add up to 20 jobs with a $4 million investment and complete by summer 2028. The 1.9-acre site has remained vacant since 2022. ABC 12

- ➤ Saginaw County Circuit Court Judge Manvel Trice III set a new sentencing date of Sept. 15 at 9 a.m. for Arielle C. Truckner— a Chesaning woman who pleaded guilty to abusing a 3-year-old girl and sending child images to her boyfriend— after her Aug. 18 hearing, and she now faces at least 18 years in prison while her boyfriend serves 17.5 years. - ➤ Five people were injured in a shooting on Saturday, August 16 near Perkins Street and 23rd Street when a large gathering turned violent; one victim, hit by a car as well as shot, is in critical condition while four others treated for gunshot wounds are in stable condition. Mid-Michigan NOW
- ➤ Michigan’s attorney general announced criminal charges against Dr. James Carthron, 61, for Medicaid fraud—he allegedly billed for services not provided after closing his PRN Urgent Care and will face a probable cause hearing on August 22 and a preliminary examination on August 28. WSGW
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Motorists in Michigan will pay an average of $3.12 per gallon for regular unleaded after gas prices dropped 11 cents from last week — Flint sees some of the lowest prices at $3.07 per gallon. A full 15-gallon tank now costs about $46, which is less than what drivers paid a month ago and last year. Mid-Michigan NOW

- ➤ Consumers Energy is giving $2 million to help eligible customers pay overdue summer energy bills if they are behind, had service shut off, or carry a balance from a previous address. Customers will apply through two community partners—The Heat and Warmth Fund and the Salvation Army. WNEM
