CRIME NEWS

  • Demetrius B. Williams, 31, is accused of fatally shooting travel nurse aide Eliza Vega-Aparicio at a Cypress Street home in Saginaw on April 5 at about 4 a.m.—witnesses including a child testified during his preliminary exam on Aug. 18, and the session will continue on Aug. 28 at 2 p.m.  MLive
  • A 28-year-old man was shot while driving on I-75 near Hess Avenue last Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Saginaw County and he managed to drive to TA Travel Center in Bridgeport for treatment before going to a hospital, and his injuries are not life-threatening with no arrests made.  WSGW
  • Police responded at around 10:20 p.m. at the Perkins and 23rd streets gathering Saturday night—where a 45-year-old man was shot and struck by a vehicle and three men and one woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries—and said that witness non-cooperation has hampered the investigation.  WSGW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Saginaw is hosting an informational meeting on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Andersen Enrichment Center to discuss the future of its nearly 100-year-old water treatment plant on Ezra Rust Drive — officials and engineers from Fishbeck Engineering will explain options such as equipment replacement, large-scale rehabilitation or building a new facility. Future meetings in October and November will be held to update residents and gather more input.  WSGW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Due to delays in the construction of its new field, Saginaw United has moved its 2025 season opener to Arthur Hill Memorial Stadium—where the team will face Freeland and honor its history.  MLive
  • Saginaw-area high school football teams are gearing up for season openers on Aug. 28—local fans are set to watch key matchups in the 2025 season. The list highlights games expected to draw intense local interest.  MLive
