CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Saginaw Police said a 43-year-old Saginaw Township woman, Cortney Michelle King, was killed and two 18-year-old men were injured in a shooting near Emerson and Howard Streets on Aug. 23 at 9:45 p.m.—detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are investigating with no arrests made yet. WNEM
- ➤ Michigan State Police told Thetford Township residents to lock doors and use alarm systems after several home invasions over the weekend — suspects broke into homes between midnight and 6 a.m. and stole items including firearms. Mid-Michigan NOW
- ➤ Michigan State Police urged Thetford Township residents to lock their doors at night after several overnight home invasions occurred—one suspect was seen on a surveillance camera near Wilson and Center roads early Sunday morning and over a dozen firearms were reported stolen. ABC 12

- ➤ Local superintendents have urged parents to contact state lawmakers to pass the school funding budget because if the first state aid payment scheduled for October 20 is missed, districts will be forced to use general funds (which may end free meal programs for students). WNEM
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A report by the Alliance for the Great Lakes warns that large data centers could pull over 150 billion gallons of water in the next five years—raising risks of water shortages and groundwater conflicts for Michigan and other states. The report urges state leaders to enact stricter water management rules and improve planning to avoid these issues. MLive
