- ➤ Saginaw residents will attend the Saginaw Soup Pitch Competition at SVRC Marketplace Ballroom on Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. to vote for a favorite small business idea (a $5 entry fee applies) as five local entrepreneurs pitch for cash prizes from $500 to $3,500. WNEM

- ➤ A former Saginaw City Council candidate, Eric Eggleston, 53, was sentenced on Sept. 4 to 18 months probation and 140 hours community service—after he was found guilty of election law forgery—by forging signatures on a nominating petition to appear on the November ballot. WNEM
- ➤ Two 20-year-old men—one from Detroit and one local—were charged after a double-shooting and high-speed chase in Saginaw that ended when they crashed into a GM plant fence, with charges including fleeing and eluding police and resisting police causing injury, while the Detroit man faces extra assault charges and the local man is charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
