CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two men—Audonis Barnett and Miseal Lugo—were charged with third-degree fleeing and assaulting police after a chase ended with a car crashing into a fence at the GM Metal Castings plant on Washington Avenue when police responded to gunfire before Labor Day, leading to a plant lockdown and injuries to two men. - ➤ Consumers Energy warned customers that scammers have been impersonating the company through phone calls and emails to demand immediate payment using prepaid debit or gift cards— the company emphasized it will never ask for credit card information over the phone and urged customers to call 800-477-5050 if they suspect a scam. - ➤ A Saginaw man named 53-year-old Eric Eggleston was sentenced to 18 months probation and 140 hours community service for election fraud after he forged petition signatures to run for city council—state and local authorities had also charged former council member Monique Lamar-Silvia for altering petition names. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Japanese Cultural Center, Tea House & Gardens of Saginaw will host the Japan Festival Sunday, Sept. 14 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 527 Ezra Rust Drive—featuring taiko drumming, harp playing, singing, martial arts, crafts, origami, calligraphy, vendors, raffles and a tea ceremony that costs $10 while general entry is free. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews will resurface M-46 on Gratiot Road in Saginaw Township today and for the next two weekends — the $480,000 project will close one lane in each direction until September 14. Officials say the work will extend the road’s lifespan and improve safety for drivers. WSGW

- ➤ Frankenmuth rallied from a 2–0 halftime deficit with four second-half goals to win 4–2 over Freeland on Thursday—boosting their standing in the Tri-Valley Conference. MLive
