- ➤ Since July 11, many parts of Lower Michigan received only two to four inches of rain instead of over six, so local gardeners should water new trees, shrubs and plants slowly and add mulch to keep soil wet before the hot, dry week ahead—helping to protect their gardens. MLive

- ➤ Hugh Bernreuter is a longtime sports reporter who has covered local high school sports, minor-league baseball and OHL hockey since 1981. He has earned 46 awards and was inducted into the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame for his work. MLive
- ➤ Northwood University earned its second consecutive Axe Bowl win by scoring the first 35 points and beating SVSU 38-14 on Saturday at Harvey Randall Wickes Stadium—sophomore Ethan Hamby passed for 241 yards as Northwood improved to a 2-0 record while SVSU dropped to 1-2. MLive
