  • Local veterans flew from Flint Bishop International Airport — where they gathered Tuesday morning — on an honor flight to visit war memorials in Washington, D.C. and will return this evening — with a welcome celebration set for 9 p.m.  Mid-Michigan NOW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Texas-based fast-food chain Raising Cane’s will open its first Saginaw County restaurant next year on Bay Road in a 2,823-square-foot building after the Kochville Township planning commission approved the site plan to replace the longtime Lover’s Lane store — the new location is expected to attract high community traffic when it opens by late summer or early fall.  MLive
  • Costco has recalled its Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene because the bottles may shatter without warning—customers who bought the wine between April 25 and August 26 should discard the bottles and bring the recall letter to receive a full refund at their local store.  MLive

CRIME NEWS

  • A fight erupted Monday at the skate park inside Frank N. Andersen Celebration Park on Fordney Street when CAP organizers returned to remove vandal graffiti from their mural project and confronted trespassers—resulting in the arrest of a 57-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman and a 50-year-old artist on charges of felonious assault, sparking community concerns over police handling.  WNEM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pit & Balcony Theatre in Saginaw will present the live-action Peanuts musical 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown' from Sept 26 to Oct 5, with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. at 805 N. Hamilton. Maxwell Teall stars as Charlie Brown while Spencer Beyerlein plays Snoopy, bringing this family-friendly production to local audiences.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • STARS and Delta College have partnered to provide free bus rides to students; starting Oct. 1, those with valid IDs will ride the fixed-route system at no cost—an effort to boost access to classes and work.  WNEM
  • Michigan colleges face lower international student enrollment because visa delays slow processing and force many to defer admission. Central Michigan University and UM-Flint report that of 5,000 applicants only 200 began campus attendance this fall — officials warn enrollment will drop further in coming years.  ABC 12

FINANCE NEWS

  • A Genesee County man aged 71 won a $400,000 Club Keno prize on Aug. 29 when he matched 10 of the 20 numbers; he bought his ticket at Uno’s of Birch Run + his win was increased from an initial $100,000 using The Kicker.  ABC 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Saginaw native and former acting Social Security commissioner Leland Dudek first supported and then resisted changes by Elon Musk’s DOGE — a report by ProPublica said he tried to protect his hometown office from possible closure during his less-than-four‑month tenure. He faced a turbulent period as federal efforts to cut spending created chaos at the agency.  MLive
  • Michigan State Police launched a campaign called Opening the Door to help parents and children navigate online risks—such as grooming and sextortion—by urging open talks and use of parental controls. The federally funded public service campaign will run through December and share a PSA video that shows dangerous online behaviors.  WSGW

  • Kaden Stevenson from Flint lost his legs to a serious infection at age 7 and is gaining strength through wheelchair sports at a camp held on Grand Valley State University’s campus—local coaches support his journey.  ABC 12
