- ➤ Dozens of Mid-Michigan veterans joined an Honor Flight last week to Washington, D.C. to visit military memorials and share their service memories—Flint native Gary Brown recounted his combat injury and Purple Heart award with his son. ABC 12

- ➤ Hampton Township police captured a 3-foot juvenile Nile crocodile sunbathing under a crab apple tree in a woman's yard on Sept. 23 — officers used a plastic tote to safely secure the reptile. It was later released to Wilderness Trails Zoo, and Lt. Todd Becker said in his 29-year career that he had never received a call like this. MLive
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ River of Time returns to Saginaw County as a free three-day festival scheduled from Sept. 26 to Sept. 28 will take place at Johnson’s Pumpkin Farm in Buena Vista Township — marking the third year of the event after its move from Bay City. The festival features history reenactments from the 1600s through the Civil War and educational programs for all ages. MLive

- ➤ Michigan State University researchers are studying a soybean high in oleic acid that helps cows digest food and produce more milk—dairy farmers may soon plant the soybean on their farms to lower feed costs and boost milk production. WNEM

- ➤ Tobias Young was sworn in as the new Saginaw City Council Member at a special meeting on Monday at 6:00 p.m.—his term will end in November 2026. He was chosen from nine applicants to replace former Council Member Monique Lamar Silvia who was sentenced for election fraud. Mid-Michigan NOW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Central Michigan University Medical Education Partners received a $750,000 federal grant to develop Michigan’s first rural residency program—aimed at letting family medicine residents complete at least 51 percent of their training at Scheurer Health and other rural sites. The program will welcome its first cohort in July 2027 to address the shortage of physicians in rural communities. MLive
